Spanish holidays are celebrated more
intensively than in Poland. And most important of them, "the feast of
feasts", is the Holy Week. On the one hand, serious, and on the other
joyful and colorful, holidays in Spain last all week. Their unusual setting gives
them a unique character that cannot be felt anywhere else. During Holy Week the
main city streets and squares of Spanish towns are changing beyond recognition,
and this is due to religious processions, which is famous for its Catholic
Spain. Responsible for organizing the marches confraternities, or religious
brotherhoods. Brotherhood of preparing for the festivities throughout the
preceding year. Participants, traversing the city streets, carrying monumental
,, pasos "or platforms on which are placed statues of religious figures.
Pasos can weigh up to several tons! The parades can meet pilgrims in
traditional costumes or the Roman soldiers in armor. Presented a lot of scenes
from the Bible. The Holy Week celebrations attended by all the inhabitants of the
cities, and often accompanied by loud music and singing.
On the one hand joyful expectation, and on the
other spectacular, serious and emotional celebration sometimes arouse surprise
tourists. In the province of La Roja in San Vicente de la Sonsierra during
wielkotygodniowych marches you can see scenes of self-flagellation martyrs,
called picaos. For this role report to volunteers, who go barefoot, wrapped in
white robes, whipping themselves until after their backs not to drain the
blood. Another custom, derived from Aragon, are the processions in the rhythm
of the drums. This is the only place in the world that celebrates Easter in
this way. Thousands of drummers participate in traditional parades, a time in
which echoes the characteristic sound is called ,, Rompida de la hora ".
In Teruel it starts on Holy Thursday, when strikes midnight, while in Calanda
lasts from Friday afternoon, even around the clock.
The dishes on the Easter table in Spain do not
resemble those traditionally eat Poles. Spending holidays in this country, you
cannot not try delicious potaje de garbanzos which is a kind of soup. Another
dish to taste is compulsory cod with tomatoes and spinach with chickpeas. At
the end of torrijas in a beautiful golden color. Torrija is a sweet dish made
from fried bread, especially popular in Andalusia. Ready torrijas served with
toppings - tastes great with honey, cinnamon, sweet syrup or wine. For those
who like desserts - Buñuelos - doughnuts with lots of vanilla cream filling.
Spaniards cannot imagine celebrating without the "monkey of Easter"
it is mona de pascha, yeast cake with egg in the middle. Once the dough
contained boiled eggs, but now replaced by a chocolate egg.
