The Skin I Live
In (Spanish: La Piel que habito) is a Spanish psychological thriller film and
directed by Pedro Almodóvar. The film is based on the novel „Tarantula” by
Thierry Jonquet.
Robert Ledgard,
is a plastic surgeon and he created an artificial skin resistant to burns and
damages but very sensitive to touch. To achieve his goal, Robert captive at
home a young woman Vera. Before, Vera was a man, Vincente and Robert changed
his sex. In this experiment helps him a maid, Marilia. In actual fact, Marilia
is Robert’s mother but he doesnt’t know this. Also, she have a son, Zeca.
One time,
Marilia tells a Vera about Robert’s wife, Gal. She had an affair with Zeca. On
day, they ran off together. Later, they had an accident, a car crash, and Gal
was badly burnt. After this accident, she lived in darkness without any
mirrors, but when she knew her new aspect, she commited suicide.
Also, Robert had
a daughter, Norma who had a psychosis. One time, at the party, she met a young,
man Vincente. During this party, Norma and Vincente spent a lot of time
together and they were alone in the garden. Later, Robert found his daughter,
unconscious and thought that Vincente harmed her. After this situation, Norma
kills herself. For this reason, Robert kidnaps Vincente a change his sex. In
consequence, he transforms him into a replica of his wife and calls him Vera.
